My work focuses on the Ink and Water Freehand Flower and Bird Technique and Freehand Mountian Water Technique. Two traditional Chinese painting styles passed along from mentor to apprentice, dating back to the early Ming Dynasty era. This expressive art form utilizes a long-established language of symbolism in the plants, birds, environments, and insects depicted to create a form of visual poetry. With this in mind, hidden prose can be found in the choices of materials, the direction of strokes, the number of leaves, the direction of branches, the angle of gazes, the color of petals, and more.
